![]() How aircraft stack up against each other is very complex. After 20 years flying fighter jets, I have often been confronted with "experts" or well-meaning interested people pointing to stats and proclaiming superiority of a particular jet over another one. The qualities being compared give little to no information to base a comparison on. I quickly browsed the site linked in the first post, with the comparison. I love the Yoda quote - end well, this will not! Of course, so far as I know, the PAK-FA has not even 'gone operational' yet. I found it all very interesting in light of the article I stumbled across about how Pierre Sprey, co-developer of the F-16 and A-10 (and cohort of John Boyd), is an adamant 'anti-JSF' (F-35) critic and is now blaming the surface adhesion material which is part of the 'stealth' system for the hypoxia incidents which have grounded the F-22 fleet twice now since it went operational. I just ran across an Air Force Association 'briefing' on the fleet composition as a result of the capability and cost differentials of the F-22 and F-35. That there is any controversy at all rather answers my question and reinforces the opinion I'd formed. ![]() That anyone might trust the figures supplied by government sources is beyond my understanding, so I well appreciate your noting that any figures on these two craft are dubious to the extreme. I'm sure that it is very similar to football rivalries. I mean, the Russians have been leaders in the 'supermaneuverability' tactic aspects of lightweight fighters. ![]() I rather doubt that a differential in pilot skills will be much of a factor, either. Now, I don't tend to give these kinds of apps a whole lot of credence, but it does rather make the US claims about the Raptor seem to be somewhat dated. It looks to me as if the two, Su-T-50 & F-22, are very comparable craft, but the Sukhoi is a mite larger, a mite faster, has distinct advantage in range and maximum ceiling. Just out of curiousity, I ran the two through the 'Compare Aircraft' app at Military Factory. I wondered about that claim.particularly when I started seeing the info coming out on the Sukhoi T-50 (PAK-FA) which the Russians are developing in combination with the Indians. It was my understanding that the development (and production) of these fighters would place the US armed forces indisputably in the dominant position in terms of global air superiority. My fractured understanding (I'm a prophead, not a jetster) is that the strategy was to make the Raptor the air dominance craft with lots of really expensive high-end technology which will limit the numbr produced, while the F-35 is a relatively lightweight and simple approach that will be produced in greater numbers.a heirarchy of fighters, as it were. Of course, here in the US, that means the F-22 Raptor and the F-35 Lightening II. I've been mildly fascinated with what I understand to be the 'Fifth Generation' of jet fighter craft.

![]() While it is certainly ambitious, not everyone will agree that this is a successful attempt at portraying world history – even in the limited scope of time allotted. In the video, it’s possible to see European colonies develop in all parts of the world, as well as how they eventually morphed into the countries that dot the globe today. This colonial period marks the beginning of globalization, creating wide-ranging impacts that set the stage for more modern history. The video also provides a 10,000-foot view of the Age of Discovery, a period of time in which European powers explored the world’s oceans. There is no exact figure on the final death toll, but historians estimate it to be somewhere between 75 and 200 million people throughout Eurasia. The Black Death - one of the most devastating pandemics in the history of the world - hit Europe in 1346, and it eventually killed 30-60% of the continent’s population. In the mid-14th century, you can see this number take a rare U-turn, as millions of people die from the infamous and deadly Bubonic Plague. ![]() The video also shows other vital stats, such as an estimate of global population through the ages. ![]() For example, Kublai Khan - the grandson of Genghis Khan - even went on to begin the influential Yuan Dynasty in China. Later on, it fragmented into smaller empires that were also quite notable in the context of world history. The empire reached its greatest extent just two years after the death of Genghis Khan. Under the leadership of Temüjin - also known as Genghis Khan - the Mongols conquered one of the largest empires by land. Similar to the Huns or various Turk federations, the Mongols were known for their proficiency with horses, bows, and tactics like the feigned retreat. Nearby societies have always been on edge when nomadic tribes in the Eurasian Steppe entered into organized confederations. No history of the world is complete without a mention of the Mongols. One of the largest empires in history, the Umayyad Caliphate peaked sometime around 750 AD.Ĭonquering most of North Africa, the Middle East, and even parts of Europe (including modern-day Spain, Portugal, and France), the Umayyads commanded a formidable territory with an area of 11,100,000 km² (4,300,000 sq. Let’s look at some specific moments on the video that particularly stand out. However, it’s still a compelling attempt at showing global history in a short and sweet fashion. Similar to the Histomap, it’s pretty much impossible for a video like this to be perfect due to biases and a general lack of data. Today’s video comes to us from Ollie Bye, and it attempts to integrate the histories of all major civilizations known by historians into a single, epic video. You may be familiar with the achievements of prominent societies like the Romans, Mongols, or Babylonians, but how do all of their stories intertwine over time and geography? Visualizing the History of the World Throughout the history of the world, many civilizations have risen and fallen. ![]() Secretly working for the Sontarans, he’d cleared the path for an invasion of Earth by the belligerent potato-heads. Long-serving scientific officer Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) – daughter of the Brigadier, of course – eventually stood up to him but it was too late. He seized control of UNIT by killing anyone in his path with a psychic snake. We flashed back to 1958 to see the taskforce being founded by General Farquhar (a typically classy cameo from Robert Bathurst) before it was infiltrated by slippery Prentis (Craig Parkinson), aka ageless interplanetary politician The Grand Serpent. Longtime Whovians would have been delighted to see the return of military organisation UNIT. So did scenery-chewing Ravager villains Swarm and Azure (Sam Spruell and Rochenda Sandall). Tunnel-building businessman Joseph Williamson (Steve Oram – or with his top hat and bushy sideburns, was it Noddy Holder?) continued to pop up in places he shouldn’t. Space captain Vinder (Jacob Anderson) was imprisoned alongside Dan’s missing girlfriend, Diane (Nadia Albina). Pregnant Bel (Thaddea Graham) teamed up with canine warrior Karnavista (Craige Els). As we returned, she was stuck in a vast field of the deadly statues, who whispered a blend of sinister threats and plot exposition in her ear. We last saw the 13th Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) turned to stone by Weeping Angels. Far too much leaping around – I counted five planets across half-a-dozen different timelines – may have left viewers feeling queasy rather than entertained. Once again in this frustrating series, there were moments of brilliance buried in a pile of piffle. Six-part story Flux reached its penultimate chapter with a muddled tangle of an episode titled Survivors of the Flux. I’m just trying to make sense of this series of Doctor Who (BBC One).
